Big Up to SF DJs moving into the "Next 100!" Urb Magazine's Next 100 is on newsstands and of course SF is represented. We got Tom Thump of Cosmic Flux. You've heard me talk about his mix CD Panatone Warm- but did you know he was the opening act for Groove Armada last week at Ruby Skye? He's also the next husky hitter for SF softball team, The Serotonin Allstars.

Jonene formerly of Panhandle and now doing his own thang called SafeinSound Music also made Urb's picks. Sadly we may be losing Jonene to San Diego where his plans include opening a small club.

Jay-J Hernandez and Chris Lum are DJs, Producers and engineers. I know you've heard of them but did you know Moulton Studios is responsible for making some of your favorite SF house tracks? We're talking about Miguel Migs, David Harness, Julius Papp...you better recognize.

DJ Design is like the mellowest cat ever. Who'd a thought that guy I used to see around the clubs was making beats for Rasco, working with Foreign Legion and releasing breaks records on Peanutbutter Wolf's label, Stones Throw? Keep an eye out for his new label, Looks Records.

Bas-1 from Oakland is holding down an old-school hip-hop mentality. Did you know he also breakdances, writes graff, DJs and MCs (battle stylee!) His debut album is called: For the mentally Astute "Theory of a throw up".

Nitevibe adds BLAKTRONIKS to this mix. Urb must have missed this one. Watch out for this bad ass melodic techno super group from Oakland. You heard it here first.

Some other names out of the Next 100 who Nitevibe likes include: Miss Kitten, Trendroid, Marky, Nickodemus, Vikter Duplaix, Lottie, Koop, Lawnchair Generals, dub Diablo, Osunlade

Now that you know who is considered the next 100 by Urb Magazine - What San Francisco Djs not mentioned do you think should have been picked? Why?

Hip-Hop Nation - This weekend should prove to be an exceptional hip-hop experience as two of the biggest and best names come to SF. The first party is called "Guilty By Association" presented by Full Circle Entertainment,True Skool and San Fiasco. The big headliner is your favorite DJ from Gangstarr, DJ Premier. If that is not enough Freddie Foxxx is also headlining. Local acts include Foreign Legion, Felonious, Psychokinetics, Meddling Kidz, Jah Yzer, Centipede, Coup D Ville, Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist and many more! Date: Saturday, May 11th, Time: 9:30 pm - 4:00 am, Place: 525 Harrison Admission: $25. For more Info. or call 1-866 468 3399

The second hip-hop blow-out event is called "Return of the Blastmaster" featuring king of Bronx hip-hop, KRS ONE at the Justice League. Opening acts include Renaisance and Kevvy Kev. Date:May 10th and 11th, Time: 9pm-2am, Place: Justice League, 628 Divisadero, Admission: $22, For more Info

Dave art at Villains Ever Plan on heading to a museum on a Saturday...but walk smack dab into a really great sweater instead? Now you can get your art on while you're shopping. Those Dave tags were on every pole and street sign last year and like most taggers who get up enough, he has graduated to the canvas. Check out Dave's bright and bloppy ameobas and chicken characters on the walls at the raver paradise, Villains. Date: May 2nd - June 3rd, Time: 11am-7pm, Place: Villains, 1672 Haight St., Admission: free, For more info.

The Birth of Skateboarding - Dogtown & Z-Boys. It's so freakin' hard to keep track of all the cool movies, especially when the film fests are happening. That's why I only see the ones I've heard about 19 times from trusted friends. Dogtown is that film. Friends in all my favorite area codes are talking about this film. Stacy Peralta and Tony Alva give you a history lesson in this retrospective on how skateboarding started. Sean Penn narrates. Date: Monday, May 6th, Time: call 931 9800, Place: 1000 Van Ness, Admission: call 931 9800, For more info.

Paint the town red, and blue and green...

So here is our Flyer Of The Week. The first flyer of the month is for DJ Fridays The designer is Todd Kurnat. . We respect his intuition and spontaneity. "I don't have an amazing process or one thing that inspires me every time" says Todd.. "Its kinda like jumping onto the wave of the moment and seeing where it takes me. I mostly just let the pieces speak for themselves." Check out his website at www.circuit73.com .

To be considered for Flyer Of The Week submit your flyer design here and tell us your style and inspiration, plus any link you'd like to plug

He turns down the volume and the whole crowd is singing "Passin' me by...". Then Doc Fu gets up and puts on the Prince track, "If I was your girlfriend" and everyone's screaming Yeah! The place freaks out...The packed crowd is screaming and yelling then Tomas,...nevermind, you just had to be there.

Event: Natural
Venue: Backflip
DJ's: Bali, Chuck & Roll, Tad Ro, Esteban
Music: house, Brazilian
Cover:$5 b4 11pm
This new party at Backflip blends house with Brazilian beats. A perfect party to start off the warmer weather months. Can we get some Capoeira dancers down here please? Oh, the Natural crew already thought of that. This should prove to be way more entertaining than watching ad execs and PR people try to samba.

Event: Synth
Venue: Galaxy Club
DJ's: Memory Systems, Sote, Fork.de, David Figurine, Red Siren
Music: minimal techno
Cover: $5
These producers and DJs are some of the most creative around. You know the sound of a truck backing up, BEEP BEEP BEEP. Yeah they could make a track out of that. I once heard about this guy who walked around the streets with a sampler recording random everyday street noises and then made songs out of the sounds. This party is like that but so much better, more melodic with more personality. You should peep this especially the musician Sote. He was just signed to the very prestigious yet dark and twisted Warp label. That's the label Aphex Twin is on, ya know.

Event: Kit Kat
Venue: The Endup
DJ's:
DJ Dano (Red Melon) & Jellybear
Music: house
Cover: $12
Kit Kat is the kind of spot where after parties run rampant. For real. You could go to Kit Kat and probably not come home until Monday night if you wanted. Oh wait that was me last time. The crew from Kit Kat must have magic dust... I've never heard one bad set, in all my times here...and it's scary how many times that really is.

"We love to funk you funkenstein/Your funk is the best." My good friend and musical doctor was recently concerned with my funk intake -- prescribed me some Parliament Funkadelic, and Bootsy Collins and told me to call him in the morning. He's right though, we throw the words "funky house" around alot. How funky am I? Ask yourself the same question then get on down to the twelve Monkey's party and get yourself an answer. Cover: $ 20 presale
The full name of this event is "Organic- Spring Love Harvest". It's fucking hilarious! Only in San Francisco can you get away with a hippy name like that. But here's the thing that's really crazy. It's one of the biggest and best parties in the bay area. It's at the most beautiful location, goes all night with musical talent that has me gagging up furballs of love. Even I, cynical x-rave girl cannot deny the power of the organic sound. It is my kryptonite.

Event: Defected Sessions
Venue: Ruby Skye
DJ's: Sandy Rivera, Matt Mau
Music: house
Cover: $TBA
Sandy Rivera. -- the Jersey sound. That's what I'm talkin about. That soulful sound that made garage what it is today. In my humble opinion, SF craves this sound deep in their hearts. We have the west coast funky house influencing the world right now, but deep inside we want to connect with where it all came from. Trust me, if you like soulful house check this out. Lets have a family reunion.

Event: Club Six Saturdays
Venue: Club Six
DJ's: Jeff Ramirez, Said, Lauris Lee
Music: house
Cover: $6 b4 11pm, $9 after
Weird things happen at 6. Crazy things happen at 6. If I could make a sit com about a club, I'd make it about 6. The 6 files, I'd call it.But the big news about 6 these days, is the new resident Lauris Lee. Yeah, Anita Lofton left, so what. Lauris is really amazing, one to watch, building deep house for you to tear down on the dancefloor. You heard it here first.

Event: Fiddle Faddle
Venue: Backflip
DJ's: Ben Long, Consuelo
Music: house
Cover: $10
Wow! is Fiddle Faddle mad at me. Always remember people, these are my picks. If the party is on the list, then I think you should go to it. I may bust on you a little here and there, but that means I like you. FF, as I now refer to it is a new jazzy sexy thang happening at Backflip on the second Sunday of the month. Bring a date and make out in a booth. Remember to tell them at the door that I sent you.

Event: Blasthaus Presents Afronaught
Venue: Kelly's Mission Rock
DJ's: Afronaught, Miguel Migs,Mauricio Avilles
Music: house
Cover: $15 presale
Orin of AFRONAUGHT is part of the UK Bugz in the Attik Crew (UK). You may recall hearing raves about this crew at the Sony Rooftop party in Miami. Much respect. Afronaught is one of those quiet musicians you don't hear to much about but those who are aware of his skills, have no more sox as they have been officially knocked off. Expect dancefloor jazz and house. It's smooth like butter but full of consistent flavorful percussion. Trust me, you will hear more about his label Bittersweet, his new releases and many more DJ dates soon enough.

We know you can't remember everything Nitevibe says. But you do remember that this is one of the best drum n' bass nights in town right? You know they got the best jungle, live hip-hop and other surprises all the time? Thank god. I thought I lost you for a second.

Event: Lemieux That Stinky Rat
Venue: Liquid
DJ's: Spair, Plattern and guests
Music: hip-hop, dancehall

No really. NO....REAL-LY. I am not making it up. That is what this new weekly is called. Usually, (I got to be honest with you here) I would throw a party with a name like this in the pix just because. But I know this party. I have been to other parties thrown by Gentlemen of the Shade and it's damn good hip-hop. Tons of fine ladies and gents come out and shake the collective ass. Speaking of ass, you should see the GOTS crew. For real. damn.
