Cinco de Mayo
To many, Cinco de Mayo is little more than a chance to get loaded on over-salted, under-tequila-ed margaritas and hit on that friend of a friend that you're positive is totally into you. If you want to go down that route – and what a deliriously fun route it is – there are certainly options. But if you want something a little different, keep reading. San Francisco comes alive with Cinco de Mayo celebrations – from a delicious brunch at Tres Agaves (considered by some to serve the best margarita in the city) to a swanky Hilton hotel party. There's also the El Cinco de Mayo Moustache Party at the Rickshaw Stop, as well as a live concert with the Mission Players at the Boom Boom Room. In search of more family-friendly fare? Head to Dolores Park for the San Francisco Cinco de Mayo Festival. Though you can't chug margaritas (it's alcohol-free), you can still creep out that friend of a friend, and might learn a little something while you're at it. Date: Saturday 5/5 (EK)

How Weird Street Faire
It's the last weird hurrah for Howard Street's yearly transformation into peaceful music festival, the How Weird Street Faire. They came in weird, and we'll certainly go out in style, as this year's 8th annual event showcases some of the best artists, talents, and performers How Weird has ever seen. World Peace Through Technology has again handed over the reins to the 8-area audio portion of the event to False Profit and Get Freaky, as well as CCC, Sunset, Earthdance, Lowpro Lounge, and more! You'll hear it all, from house beats to breaks and dubstep, progressive, trance, downtempo, and live fusion. YOu'll be immersed in Anon Salon art and decor and subjected to many a freakish if fabulous sight. Enjoy it to the utmost. Date: Sunday, 5/6, Time: 11:11am-5:55pm, afterparty kickes off at Fat City. FreqOut de Mayo
Leave it to Anon Salon to take Cinco de Mayo to bizarre new realms with their special flair for the freaky. FreqOut de Mayo promises a passionate display of color and sound as SF's delightfully delirious let their freak flag fly with a touch of south-of-the-border flavor. In addition to the traditional sounds of Syd Gris, Kashia, Melyss and Rhythmystic, meandering outer space dub mariachis Cuatro Caminos and live hardware PA master Novatron will be making sure the soundwaves stay sufficiently surreal. As one would expect from Anon's many expanded minds, you'll find all manner of distractions hidden among its many nooks and crannies, from mondo masks to air brushed liquid skin zones and mural magic. Supposedly the venerable venue has undergone a major spring cleaning, so be among the first to experience the revamped dancefloor and deck. It's the perfect prelude to Sunday's How Weird, too! Date: Sat 5/5, Time: 10pm til late, Place: Anon Gallery (9th & Folsom), Cover: $10 b4 10:30, $15 w/costume, $20 w/o, linkMore Info. (SG)

The Adam Freeland-discovered Marine Parade heads Evil 9 are back in SF, so it's the time and place to again get crooked on a seriously wicked and writhing 1015 dancefloor. SF's own Mike Relm may not be a Dreamteam-recognized DJ, but if you don't know who he is, you just happen to be way behind the rest of the world-- he has taken turntablism to an entirely different level. There aren't many DJs in the city that have been as influential to San Francisco's house scene as Garth and Jeno. One of the finest attributes of the SF scene is it's openminded and inventive attitude, which is why we love what the folks behind The Experiment are doing. In their continuing quest to keep light years ahead of the curve, they are beinging in the boundry-breaking innovators of Britain's Lawgivers who never do the same show twice. Armed with CDJs, turntables, laptops, and any other gadget they have handy, they are constantly remixing every track they drop. Freq Nasty described them as "Orbital meets Aphex Twin meets Depeche Mode", but even that description doesn't come close to covering what these two are capable of. (SG)

Having been born and raised in the SoCal desert, I, for one, don't particularly understand or enjoy this 'rain' stuff that seems to stick around up here. So you can imagine my relief upon seeing the first pool party of the season finally arrive with the warm sunshine. To help mark the occassion, NK7 is bringing special guest Lego all the way from Chicago for his SF premier. The party gets going early at 2pm to maximize the sunshine, but things will stay hot all the way til 10 so have your dancing shoes on. (SG)

How Weird rings in the sunny festival season we all love so much, so the Experiment kids decided this weekend deserved a double dose of their bleeding edge breaks and uncommon house. The lineup for this excellent afterparty reads like a who's-who of the scene's finest, so after you've charged your solar party batteries at the festival, release that energy in the best way possible: by dancing through the night with the best SF has to offer.
