Bunny
Jam VII
Let's face it, Easter can be just about the most absurd annual
holiday there is. The re-birth of a certain well-known religious
leader is somehow paired up with hard-boiled eggs, terrifying
anthropomorphic rabbits, candy, pastels, scavenger hunts, and
that annoying fake grass that gets into everything. Well, when
San Francisco's underground sees something absurd, only one question
come to mind: how can we take this from absurd to ludicrous in
under 10 seconds? Enter the Bunny Jam. Now in it's 7th incarnation,
this celebration of Spring bids you to don your best bunny ears,
close your eyes, say goodbye to sanity and go straight down the
rabbit hole into an ethereal realm of incomprehensible insanity.
The Porn Palace plays host this year, and though no actual animals
will be harmed, the same can't be said for your sense of reality.
The puntastic tomfoolery includes a FURshion show, VagaBunny Opera,
Circus MeHOPolus, Dr. Farmly & Friends' Billion Bangin Bunnies
Barnyard Bash, and plenty more delightful distractions. The hoppin
beats come courtesy of a collection of DJs and live acts that
would make the Mad Hatter proud, and as much as I would love to
list them, I'm all punned out. It's a one-of-a-kind show you won't
find anywhere else and it only comes once a year, so hop to it!
Date: Sat. 4/7, Time: 8pm-4am,
Place: 415 Jessie Street, Cover:
$20-$30 depending on costume commitment, More

Low
Hanging Fruit
If you're in need of a little theatrical stimulation, the Drama
Mamas are here to help. Since its inception, the Bay Area ensemble-based
theatre company has sought to "engage female voices with the world's
on-going cultural, political, and existential debate." This time
around, co-founder Jade Raybin tackles the mother (as it were)
of all cultural, political, and existential debates: Sex. Low
Hanging Fruit follows tech dude Greg as he traverses the
treacherous waters of sexual morality and finds out why "some
things are better left off BART" (Are you listening, San Francisco?).
Sweetening the already sweet pot - original music and sound design,
a live beatboxer, and champagne and strawberries on opening night!
Date: Fri 4/6 - Sat 4/21, Time:
8pm, Place: CounterPULSE,
1310 Mission, Cover: $20 Fri and Sat, $15 Thurs,

Beats
Per Minute
Curated by Julio Cesar Morales, this art exhibition features sound-focused
and visually stimulating contemporary works by DJ/visual artist/instrument
builder Walter Kitundu, as well as Christine Wong Yap, Mung
Lar Lam, and other artists who blur the boundaries between
music, visual arts, and new media in their works. You may remember
Kitundu as the artist who created turntables that rely on wood,
water, fire and earthquakes for their power and pitch. He strives
to make the connection between the natural world and the latest
musical technologies through his works. Artist Christy Matson's
woven sound spectrograms explore the nature of digital media,
as the mix of fibers transcribe sound waves, the patterns of which
show up on her pieces. This is your chance to experience sound in
a way that thrills your eyes instead of ears. Date:
Ongoing through Sunday 4/29, Time:Tue – Fri:
11am–6pm, Sat & Sun: 11am–5pm, Place: Museum
of Craft and Folk Art (51 Yerba Buena Lane), Cover:

Feet High and Rising helped lay the groundwork for alternative
hip-hop and the many artists in need of a new vision - Digible Planets
