St.
Patty's Day
When St. Patrick's Day hits San Francisco, we all know that you
don't have to be Irish to get lucky and reap the benefits of a
big party weekend. Brush up on your Irish accent and lingo, find
yourself something shamrock green that doesn't easily stain, declare
yourself Irish for a day, and join the lively fray as it flocks to
Market Street for the 155th Annual St.
Patrick's Day Parade, the largest of it's kind west of the
Mississippi. The celebration continues at the end of the
parade route, where the lush green beer garden will be flowing
at an alarming rate, traditional Irish food will be served,
and the sounds of Shana Morrison and Culann's Hounds will
be heard throughout the spirited festival. If you just can't wait
to kick the celebration off on Friday, Clover Clash at 1015 Folsom
is your spot for electro, techno, glitch, dubstep, mashups and
breaks beats, busted out by local faves Adam Ohana and Motion
Potion, as well as the Juan Maclean. If you are still going strong
come Saturday night, check out the parties at Crash Nightclub,
where DJ Joey Mazzola is playing, and Butterfly at Pier 33 where
Frenchy le Freak and Plastik Funk will spin the night away. Date:
Parade and Celebration: Saturday 3/17, Time:
11:30am - 5pm, Place: celebration at Civic Center
Plaza, Parade starts at 2nd @ Market, Cover:

The
Birds and the Bees
It's time for The Birds and the Bees, and no I'm not referring
to that proverbial sex talk! I'm talking about the opening
reception for an art exhibition featuring paitings and photography
from artists like Meagan Donegan and painter Kevin
E. Taylor. First we have Alison
Bank, a photographer who likes to capture emotion on
film, and Andy
Kowalczyk, an illustrator and fine artist who's heavily influenced
by children's book illustrations and Mexican folk art . Then we
have Tessa
Merrie, originally fom London, who has an incredible love
for the outdoors and uses natural debris collected during excursions
to create her pieces,and Samantha
Tello, a Spanish native who paints using grounded metals to
simulate the rusting process. Your favorite hip-hop turntablist
DJ Centipede will be manning the decks. Date: opening
reception Thursday 3/15, (exhibit runs til June), Time:
6pm-10pm, Place: Madrone Lounge, 500
Divisadero St, Cover: no cover, More

Bay
Area Anarchist Bookfair
Whether you're a die-hard anarchist who's new to the area, a skeptic
looking to flesh out a general distrust for Big Government, or
just naturally curious, you need to stop by the 12th
Annual Bay Area Anarchist Bookfair and check out the goods.
The fair offers plenty of radical reading, of course, but also
an impressive roster of panels and speakers, among them a salon
celebrating feminism with F-WORD
'zine editor Melody Berger, a discussion on the future of radical
print publications with panelists from Clamor and Wiretap, and
speeches by pirate radio pioneer Stephen Dunifer, historian and
professor Roxanne
Dunbar-Ortiz, and punk/artist/performer Fly.
And if you've ever ridden a bike in the city, you'll especially
want to catch San Francisco activist and Critical Mass co-founder
Chris
Carlsson's talk on Saturday afternoon. Date:
Saturday 3/17 - Sunday 3/18, Time: Sat. 11am-5pm,
Sun. 10am-6pm, Place: San Francisco County Fair
