Jesus: Big Art Show
Urbanized art and true San Francisco style are what ArtNowSF
is all about, and if you're looking for something a little different,
they've got something for ya. This show at 111 Minna will feature
the work of Ethen
B. Luce and Devin Harris as they put on a full-blown
art show under the guise of their hit Suite
Jesus events. From 7-10 you can mix and mingle as you appreciate
the work on the walls, then from 10 on you can move to the mix
and appreciate the work behind the decks as Solace, Justin Time
and DJ Reb lay down the hip-hop, funk and more, nice and
thick. Get your groove goin and pay a little lip service
to that "get more culture" new year's resolution. Date: Sat

Women On The Way Festival
A generation or two ago, women's arts showcases were short-lived
and under-attended affairs. But times have changed: so many talented
women have offered their abilities for Women
On The Way, that the festival's run was extended to three
weeks! Kicking off this Thursday, January 11th, Women On The Way
will feature a week of circus performance, followed by a week
of dance/music collaborations, then a final week of experimental
installations. Pick your pleasure, and immerse yourself in inspired
performance from the most promising female performers around.
Date: Thu 1/11 -Sun 1/28, Time:
all shows 8pm except 1/14 at 7pm, Place: Dance

Berlin & Beyond: German Film Fest
From the first days of film when Marlene Dietrich was a silent
film seductress, to the epic expressionism of Lang's Metropolis,
to Tom Twyker's modern classic Run Lola Run, German cinema
has combined technical skill with cutting-edge conceptualism,
making German filmmakers trailblazers on celluloid. The most
recent fruits of that tradition will be on display at the Berlin
& Beyond German Film Fetival. All of the films will be shown
at the Castro, and I know one film I'm not going to miss Here
We Come, which shows how a single dance move shown on German
TV led to homegrown breakdancing scene that spread throughout
West Germany. Trust me, a subtitled German flick will impress
your date alot more than watching geriatric Sylvester Stallone
stumble through the latest Rocky rehash. Date:
Thu 1/11 - Wed 1/17, Place: Castro Theatre (429
Castro), Cover: $6-$9, More

Gonzo: A Brutal Chrysalis
Hunter S. Thompson was a prototype never deemed fit for production.
Brutal, relentless, incisive and amusing, his voice didn't directly
define a generation, but a generation was defined by trying to
keep up with him. Now the hey day of the one and only gonzo
journalist is being portrayed on the stage of the Climate Theatre.
Showing Thompson from 1968-72, just after he survived the
Hell's Angels and leading up to the Nixon years, the stark
raving brilliance of his unique life and world view will
be shown in all it's frightening glory. It's a fitting tribute
to man whose life mirrored San Francisco's acid age, and
ended with his ashes being shot out of a cannon. Date:
Now thru Sat 1/27, Time: 8pm, Place:
Climate Theater (285 9th St., next to Anon Salon), Cover:
