Nitevibe Buzz

Signing Off On 2006
Another year is in the books, and as always, we look back and marvel at all that's changed and all that's remained the same. Throughout political turmoil and the various vagaries of the world, San Francisco remained true to its reputation as the home of the greatest vibe on earth. House-heads, prog-lovers and breaks enthusiasts turned out in record numbers for the annual DJDreamteam extravaganza, and we're looking forward to an even bigger and better showcase this coming year. The amazing array of events SF has to offer was enhanced as new venues and the new Summer Music Festival joined the ranks of Love Fest, Folsom Street Fair, and Burning Man as quintessential gatherings of the community. It's been a profound pleasure to help steer you through all this city has to offer, and we want to thank you all for the smiles and sheer joy you've shared with us and everyone around you. Check out our Best of 2006 gallery below for a trip down memory lane, and then make those last second plans for New Year's with out NYE 2007 guide. Have fun, be safe, and we'll see you in two weeks as we embark on another year of incredible opportunities. (SG)

2006 The Year As it was...

Time Waits For Nobody: NYE 2007
2006 is a year to remember, there is no doubt. SF stepped up and put on more epic events than we can count. As we count down to the final moments of an exhausting, exhilirating year, make sure you go out with a bang, and not a whimper. Our annual guide to the super-stacked New Year's festivities gives you a head start on the pinnacle moment of an extravagent year. The finest SF promoters and Nitevibe have teamed up to offer free ticket sweepstakes for each party, so get your entries in by the 27th, and we'll be letting you know by email on the 28th if you won. Keep checking back as we'll be adding more events throughout this week and next. So get your plans in order, because you want to spend your New Year's reflecting on how far you've come, not worrying about where you're going. linkMore Info (SG)

Radical Software
Radical Software: Art, Technology, and the Bay Area Underground, is an exhibition presented by CCA Wattis Institute that combines artwork, experimental film and video, documentary materials, and artifacts to trace counter-cultural discourse from the days of the postwar bohemian underground to the present day, when Stewart Brand's often-quoted claim that "information wants to be free" (at the first Hackers' Conference in 1984) has clearly been adopted by artists, hackers, and activists as a basic principle. The exhibition brings together internationally known and emerging artists including Artists' Liberation Front, William Burroughs, Timothy Leary, and National Center for Experiments in Television. The exhibition is co-sponsored by Wired magazine. Date: Tuesday-Saturday, now through 3/24/07, Time: noon-5pm, Place: CCA Wattis Institute, Kent and Vicki Logan Galleries, California College of the Arts, 1111 Eighth Street @ 16th and Wisconsin. Such is the spirit of the Sahara New Year's Extravaganza. Culturally rich and diverse, this NYE event features two floors of love, heart, and electrifying live musical acts. Tribal belly dancers, samba dancers, African master drummers & dancers will enhance the music flowing from the hearts of DJs from India, Belgium, the Ivory Coast, Liberia, France, Canada, the Czech Republic, Brazil and the US. All these elements are coming together to bring the house down while raising funds for children in war-torn Darfur, Sudan. The event will take place at the elegant and majestic New Langton Arts center with an authentic Bedouin Style lounge and epic window views. Electric Vardo's Chef Saroj will provide indulgent hors d’oeuvres, and there will be an exclusive live show by Sila and The Afrofunk Experience. World beats and universal rhythms will abound throughout in a treat for the eyes, ears, and soul. (SG)
