Day
of the Dead
Skeletons
don't have to be scary! Take the opportunity to create altars
in honor of ancestors, loved ones, and friends that have passed
away, or pay your respects in your own peaceful way with the camaraderie
of the local community beside you at the annual Dia de Los Muertos
festival. Five local artists have been commissioned to build a
large scale altar installation on which you are invited to place
flowers, photos, mementos, and food and drink in celebration of
the lives of those now gone. This is an artful community celebration
honoring both death and the cycle of life and Dia de los Muertos
is an annual Meso-American holiday dedicated to our ancestors
and loved ones now gone, a spirit very similar to that found at
Burning Man's annual temple burn. The Day of the Dead is
celebrated by creating sacred space with art installations, performances
and a walking procession which help us contemplate our personal
existence, mortality and celebration of life. Date:

Icer
Air 2006
When the weatherman states that there will be snow in San
Francisco this Saturday, simply shrugging the forecast off as
far-fetched will prove a major mistake. 200 tons of snow,
in fact, will be dumped into AT&T Park, and along a 100 ft
high ramp, many a world-class skier and snowboarder will fly,
making Icer Air one of the most outrageous events in SF this
year. Jurassic 5,
the five man hip-hop crew that includes turntable tricksters
DJ Nu-Mark and DJ Cut Chemist and is known for their innovative
lyrics and positive flow, will provide the heat this
event's spectators may be missing. The UK's Ladytron
will also perform, invading the stands with a style of electronica
all their own, but complete with live guitar and drums. Don't
miss this day of snow in the city. Date:
Saturday 11/4, Time: 10am-8pm, Place:
AT&T Park, 24 Willie Mays Plaza, Cover: $10

Men's
Clothing Swap
Sometimes it seems like girls get all the breaks-- great hair,
great shoes, great clothes… but not in San Francisco! This is
an equal-opportunity city, the kind of place where a man can look
his best without being called any nasty names. Hence the first-ever
all-men's fashion clothing swap, this Saturday at the Cafe. Go
on, dig through your closet for those too-short pants, the shirt
that's just a little too tight… then watch someone else walk the
runway in them as part of an instant fashion show! Who knows what
you'll be bringing home this weekend… but you're guaranteed to
like it. Date: Saturday 11/4, Time:
12-4pm, Place: The Café, 2367 Market St. &
Castro, Cover: $10 presale, $15 door, More
