Electronic Music Festival
The San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, now in its seventh year, is dedicated to innovation in the realm of electronic sound art. What does that mean? It means that the sounds of tomorrow are being created today, and you can be among the first to hear them. The music is experimental in its very nature: featured artists use everything from laptop computers to processed acoustic instruments and amplified found objects – with a bit of video and performance art tossed in to boot. Expect to be challenged by atonal melodies and varying rhythms, and inspired by what these incredible musicians have to offer. Date: Thu-Sun, Aug. 10-13, Time: 8:30pm (Fri. and Sat., installations from 5:30-8), Place: SomArts, Cover: $10 to $48 (installations no cover), linkoutMore Info. (JH)

Cosmic Wonder
We flock to the parties that most excite us and treat our ears to their favorite sounds and beats as much as possible, and at least every weekend. Take a day off from the audio and treat your eyes to the hot new visual art exhibit in town. Featuring Ara Peterson and Jim Drain's "Large Video Kaleidoscope" and ex–Black Dice and ex–Lightning Bolt drummer Hisham Bharoocha's Bearhug, the metaphysical art exhibit delves into cosmic, urban, natural, and infinite realms. With plenty a mind-altering pattern and strangely morphing form, these pieces offer a trip that could challenge that offered by the sickest thumping house beat or the glitchiest most bass-driven breaks. Don't miss out. Date: Saturday 7/15 - Sunday 11/5, Time: gallery hours Tue, Wed, Fri, Sat & Sun: noon – 5pm, Thu: noon – 8 pm, Place: Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, 701 Mission St, Cover: $6, linkoutMore Info (DKD)
