Afrofunk
Music Festival
The first and only Afrobeat festival in the world debuted to a
packed house last July, making its summer return a highly anticipated
event. This year’s festival will feature diverse and electrifying
musical acts from Guinea, Algeria, Senegal, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria,
Brazil, and the Bay Area, all coming together to bring the house
down while raising funds for Kids in Darfur, Sudan, Niger and
Kenya whose lives have been devastated by war and famine. Three
nights of hot sounds will include Jujuba and Albino!, Sila and
the Afrofunk Experience, Prince Diabete, and many more. Proceeds
from this year's festival will benefit Save the Children Emergency
Relief Fund. Date: Thu 7/27 - Sat 7/29, Time:

Jazz
On Grant
It's time for another fantastic summer event as the North
Beach Jazz Fest kicks off with Jazz On Grant. Starting at 7pm
at the SF Italian Athletic Club with the 20+ piece Realistic Orchestra
and running all through the night at other North Beach venues.
Some of the other acts you'll want to see include Boca del Rio,
Motion Potion, Brooke Michael and John Houghton. There are many,
many more musicians performing jazz, world beat, soul, Flamenco
and more, so no matter where you wander you are pretty much guaranteed
to see something special. My advice? Go with the flow and let
the night take you where it will, it'll be a great time wherever
you end up! Date: Wed 7/26, Time:

John
Kricfalusi Retrospective
"Steempy, you eeeediot!" …Ah, those words ring sweetly in the
memories of the millions who discovered Ren
and Stimpy back in the '90s. One of the first adult-oriented
animations to become a series, R&S's delightful storylines
included hairballs, peeing, pectoral muscle enhancement, and psychosis.
Their creator, John
Kricfalusi, was eventually fired from the Nickolodeon-owned
series because his sense of humor was so foul. Still, America
loves him just the way he is! This week, Kricfalusi will be screening
some of his favorite works, including R&S episodes. Faint
of heart, or stomach? Catch the kids' show Saturday afternoon…
Date: Fri 7/28 & Sat 7/29, Time:
8pm Fri, 2pm & 7pm Sat, Place: Castro Theatre,
Cover: $10 adults, $6 kids, More
