When it comes to celebrating their national holiday, the strong French ex-pat commuunity in SF does it in style. You can expect to see the wine flow and the music to play, enlivening spirits that are still a little bruised from the World Cup. The daytime festivities kick off at noon on Friday along the french alleys of Belden Place and Claude Lane. As night comes on you can count on the good times going on as Ruby Skye, Pink, Anon Salon and Duplex all host what are sure to packed houses with some of SF's finest DJs spinning late into the night. Start inventing your excuses now, there's a strong chance you may have to call in sick on Friday and spend the day partying it up the French way. Fire Arts Festival
Are you fascinated with flames? Captivated by kerosene? Does the sight of a match make you drool a little? Or are you simply in awe of the fire arts, one of the most challenging, powerful, and ancient art forms known to humanity? For four days this week, The Crucible will be holding its one-of-a-kind Fire Arts Festival in Oakland. Here, you can get your fill of incredible fire and light sculptures and live performances from some of the Bay's most groundbreaking artists. Learn how these amazing artworks are created, pick up a fire safety tip or two, and watch live demonstrations – all within a safe, educational, and absolutely entertaining atmosphere. Fanatical Attics
ONSix Gallery and Jest present the opening of Fanatical Attics, an art show featuring various artists, illustrators and musicians on July 14th. Some featured work includes illustrations from Scott Laumann, artwork from Joel Elrod and Stephen Thompkins, and paintings from Joe Sorren. And that's only a taste of those appearing. Immediately following the opening, there'll be an afterparty featuing the musical stylings from Laird of Get Yer Freak On!, throwing down the hottest breakbeat and funk tunes while Bayonics, a live nine person ensemble, plays their hip-hop, funk, and salsa beats for you to groove to. They'll be joined by many of their friends onstage to make sure this opening after party is the hottest party ONSix has ever seen! Summer Music Conference
San Francisco is the city with the most DJs per capita in the world, and some of this city's best and brightest decided it's high time the music world came and saw what we are all about. Thus, the first ever San Francisco Music Conference was born, a chance for the world's best to come here and enjoy everything we have to offer. The potential for this event is huge! New York's legendary Soul Slam Party: Michael Jackson vs. Prince has finally made it out to San Francisco, and this is one fight to the finish you may want to witness. The music will be solid, but the dancefloor may get ugly, so come ready to bust an old school move or two. (DKD)
