Independence Day
The politics of patriotism have gotten awfully dicey lately, so I think this is a good time to remember what 4th of July is all about: celebrating your right as an American to be as straight-laced or insane as you want to be. Well, that and big ass explosions of color in the sky, of course! Even better, with the 4th falling on a Tuesday, more than a few folks are looking at four-day weekends. That means a Sunday full of great events, including pool-side indulgences at Hot Cabana and the EndUp's mega-marathon. To accomodate all the extra fun and excitement, we're expanding this issue to cover all the way to the night of the 4th. Then we'll need a day to recover (naturally), and we'll be right back at you next Thursday. But back to the fireworks. The main event is along the waterfront's tourist row (Pier 39, etc.) and is always impressive. If you want to get away from the crowds and trust your sea legs, more than a few cruises are being offered that night so you can view the action from the water. It's the essence of summer, so get out there and take advantage of it! More Info. (SG)
