Fire Arts Expo
Art! Fire! Art on Fire! Fabulous. For those
of us who like to feel the burn, the Black Rock
Arts Foundation presents a three-day flaming
fiesta featuring the best local artists from
Vau
de Vire to the Flaming
Lotus Girls. It's the closest you'll come
to some of the most outrageous playa-scale fire
creations without making the trip to BRC. Come
get your fill of incendiary art, live performances, and a fireworks show on Thursday night! In fact,
my inside sources tell me that Thursday is a
night not to miss. But whenever you can come
out, you are sure to be flabbergasted and wholly
entertained by this resplendent spectacle. Date:
Thurs-Sat, 5/18-20, Time: Thu 8:30-11pm,

Bay
To Breakers
The Drunkest, Wildest, most entertaining 12K
race in the history of mankind takes another
bow this week! Bay to Breakers is the only race
I know of where finishing first is about the
worst possible outcome. If you are at the head
of the pack, how will you get to see the nudists,
the Elvises, the trout running upstream, and,
of course, the many mobile 'refreshment' stands
along the way? Last year runaway brides were
the big hit, what will this year's 'go-to' costume
be? Roided up home run kings? Shotgun-toting
VPs? There's only one way to find out, and that's
to catch this moving spectacle in person. Date:
Sunday 5/21, Place: Click

Hunab
Ku Electronic Music Trilogy
We all know that music has the power to transport
us, but when was the last time you went on a
musical journey? Noted Bay Area composer Dwight
Loop wants to escort you into the depths of
electronica with his performance of Hunab Ku.
The three-part composition will focus on atmospheric
and ambient textures, and be accompanied by
a full light show. The Grace Cathedral's incredible
acoustics and lofty ceilings make it absolutely
the best place in San Francisco to experience
a show like this, so put Hunab Ku on your must-do
list this week! Date: Wednesday 5/17,
Time: 7:30pm, Place: Grace Cathedral
(1100 California St), Cover: $15, More

ZOOM!
In celebration of diversity and the arts, ArtSFest
has its annual exhibition of Bay Area arts presenters
this month. We're talking dance performances,
art shows, and music events that
represent the creativity contained within
San Francisco. On Friday we have ZOOM!,
the kinetic art extravaganza that rolls film,
latex and DJs all into one. Machiko Saito showcases
his interactive films and vidoes, while Deidre
DeFranceaux displays her inflating
latex figures. There's also BOING!,
a latex bouncy town installation that has responsive
light and sound components to go along with
it, as well as a DJ who'll be adding the soundtrack
to this truly innovative and creative event.
Date: Friday 5/19, Time:
7pm-midnight, Place: Red Ink
Studios (52 9th St @ Jesse), Cost:
$5-50 donation, More
