Walter
Kitundu's LP
This solo exhibition includes the drawings,
sculptures, and instruments Walter
Kitundu created in his ongoing exploration
of the mighty turntable. Captivated by the turntable's
potential as a medium for the expression of
sound, Kitundu has hand built tables powered
by nature's elements of wind and rain, fire
and earthquakes, birds, light, and the force
behind sea waves and tides. He believes that
records are an instrumental tool in interpreting
our own environment, and he has worked with
and built instruments for well-known recording
artists such as Meshell N'degeocello. Stay tuned
for a chance to see the man perform on his own
instruments, or catch him at the Exploratorium
where he resides. Date: Fri.

US
Air Guitar Championships
Stop laughing! This is a serious contest. After
our crushing defeat to Holland in last year's
Air Guitar World Championships, the
American team is looking for a new star
to join the ranks of previous champs, Sonyk-Rok,
Rockness Monster, and Bjorn Turoque, and represent
our most excellent nation in the 2006 World
Championships. Contestants have to adhere to
strict rules, such as "The instrument must be
invisible and must be a guitar," "Air roadies
are allowed, but they must leave the stage before
the performance begins," and "No back-up bands
(air or real)". And now that Finland has perfected
the virtual
air guitar, you can bet the competition
will be fierce. For more information, see
this clip - and ROCK ON! Date:
