Chillin' 8th Anniversary
The Chillin' 8th Anniversary Party is an all-out festival of fashion, film, painting, and photography set to thumping beats cranked out by a conglomeration of SF's favorite DJs. In the fashion department, you'll find 60 designers, so be sure to hunt down ViaJay's threadworx, Green Girl's infamous hoodies, and mixerfriendly, for all your DJ needs. Fashion photographer Dominic Nico and new media artist Nate Pagel will be there among 60 filmmakers and 60 painters/ photographers for furthering your visual stimulation. To keep the crowd grooving as they peruse the scene, a diverse set of DJs including Kerowack, Russell Vargas, and DJ Shon will bring out beats in all flavors, shapes, and sizes. Bump to everything from hip-hop to tech-funk and house at this field day of fashion, film, and many other delights. Alice Radio's Three Minute Film Festival takes your quickie submissions for Drama/Documentary, Comedy, Animation, and just added Original Music Video categories, picking those tantalizing takes on life that will keep you on your toes. The award show will feature musical guests and screenings of 15 of the films, along with naming the winners of $3,000 prizes in each category. SF Peoples' Art Auction & Party
The San Francisco Peoples' Organization is hosting their first annual art auction fundraiser, and no matter which way you lean on certain issues, you'll want to be there. SFPO brings together diverse communities and organizations to turn their progressive ideas into realities for positive social change. San Francisco’s poet laureate Jack Hirschman will read, Marcus Darkraven will present a screening of his film For the Bayview, and live music and DJs will provide the grooves that keep you motivated to donate or bid. Over 30 artists' works will be auctioned off by guest auctioneer Matt Gonzalez, such as Lawrence Ferlinghette and Barry McGee pieces. ArtSFest Spectra Ball
The annual ArtSFest Spectra Ball is one of the reasons SF is known throughout the world for the collective energy, color, and community that make up our vibrant arts scene. Open the door to over 40 acts in theater, circus, dance, music, and spoken word. Entertainment highlights include the tech-trance beats of DJ Dragn'fly, DJ HappyFt's funky hip-hop and breaks, and breakdancing by Sisterz of the Underground. To further test your tolerance to sensory overload, there will be over 50 visual art installations that together represent the full spectrum of forms, style, and ethnicity. The event benefits ArtSFest's own programs including ArtSfest TX, which gives underprivileged kids tickets to arts shows and performances.
