Burning Man 2005
It’s that time of year again to head to the playa for a week of self-expression, community participation, good vibes, and the constant thumping of DJs mixing live. Tote along all supplies necessary for your survival, but chuck those pre-conceived notions well before you enter – it is a week for welcoming fresh experience and interaction, and forgetting the drudgery of daily life. This year’s theme is the Psyche, so you’ll have ample opportunity to explore this concept through the art installations it has inspired and by rummaging through the uneven layers of your own consciousness. To assist you with making this a satisfying trip, international DJs such as Paul Oakenfold, Lee Coombs, and Freq Nasty will appear on the decks during the week, as well as gangs of our local faves including Dreamteam DJs Laird, Lorin, and Smoove, and the Space Cowboys with the infamous Unimog. The grand Burn itself takes place on Saturday, but get there way sooner as the enchantedly epic experience cannot be summed up in one night. Enjoy the one full week of mind-blowing desert frolicking that is Burning Man 2005. Date: Mon 8/29-Mon 9/5, Time: All hours, Place: Black Rock City, Cover: $350.00 at the gate, More Info (DKD)

Hey you, party people...
Whether you are setting forth to Burningman's Black Rock City or just celebrating labor reform laws in San Francisco (read: workin' it on the dancefloor) Nitevibe sincerely wishes you a safe and prosperous weekend celebration. That means no playing with matches (Burningman being the exception) and no driving drunk whether it be a 50-foot-traveling-pirate-ship-run-via-lawnmower-engines-complete-with-full-bar, or your own Jetta! The devoted Nitevibe staff will also be along for the bacchanalian ride which is why we return to you next week on Wednesday instead of Tuesday. Until then, safe travels and good times to all! (JP)

Event: leftside Gangbang Pt. 2
Venue: Milk
DJs: Nick Catchdubs, Ross Hogg, Oxy Cottontail
Music: hip-hop, rock, dancehall, pop
Cover: tba
Dancehall, born from reggae, moved into the scene alongside the R&B and hip-hop movement. Politically, spiritually, and just plain controversially laden lyrics, these genres have often been rejected by mainstream media. Of course, that never stopped Nick Catchdubs from mixing them all together with similarly controversial rock, electronic, and dub, resulting in politically satirical beat-soup. Nor has it hindered Ross Hog, from highlighting the sensual aspects of the political scene, spinning grooving-lovin beats from strong lyrics. Oxy Cottontail known for her Oxy parties and fascinating display of friends and acquaintances. This is definitely a party for seeing and being seen. (MJ)
