Rock
The Bells
This Sunday you have an opportunity to be part
of San Francisco music history. Never before has
a hip-hop festival of this magnitude come to our
city – let alone taken over the streets! There
are numerous headliners performing in and around
Mighty including a good part of the Wu-Tang Clan
– Method Man, Ghostface & Raekwon. Plus other
hip-hop megastars like Busta Rhymes, Redman, Guru,
Dead Prez, Q-Bert and one of my personal favorite
freestyle emcees, Supernatural, plus many more.
If you need more than auditory stimulation to
get you off your ass on a Sunday, peep the numerous
educational, food and art vendors. The best part
of RTB is that you would expect this event to
be held at a sterile megavenue like the Colliseum,
not in the heart of the city at a
club like Mighty. As LL Cool J might have remarked
circa 1985, Rock the Bells is "hard as hell!"
Date: Sun 7/31, Time:
1pm-9pm, Place: Mighty (119 Utah
St.), Cover: $35 presale,
$85 VIP, More

Celebrate
Tech Support
There's nothing that seems to bring people together
quite like an anniversary party. Just one more
reason to check out Tech Support 1 year jam with
a special album launch for Suicide Barrier and
special guest J. Majik. This junglist and dnb
head has been producing beats since the early
'90s in his native UK. Having launched Infrared
Records in 1994, the label grew to foster productions
with Lemon D, Peshay, and Goldie, and the seminal
breakthrough Nightvision LP brought the
label out with Photek, John B, and Total Science. True
Force is the main event however, with a live d'n'b
experience featuring a Latin percussionist, Rashida
(a.k.a. Audio Angel) on vocals and Cosmic Selector
and Drifter deep in the mix and on keyboards.
In the trance and breaks room, Dutch and Mystre
brings years of combined experience plus Felix
the Dog, and Donna Matrix are there for the breakers.

Nigerian-raised rhythm master carrying on the family tradition his
father established for decades before him, just as the Marleys have
done for reggae. Trying to forge a soundnd and style apart from

jazz and funk into his Afro-rhythms, and on Fight To Win

Every

the talk of the town, the one definitive event of the entire week.
This year that party was, without a doubt, Porterhouse at the
State. An instant classic, the night was the creation of Steve
Porter, a true phenom who is ripping apart the conventional
wisdom of house music. His approach keeps the essence of house music's soul
but adds multi-faceted layers of the most exquisitely formed high
energy tech-style you can imagine. DriveSF,
Spundae, and Embrace (with an
assist from Flirty Flirty
