For the Love and Bass
While many of us are still cheering the opening of Addictech Records, the self-tagged "Breakbeat addicts" behind the shop have put together a bona fide breaks-fest and Tsunami Benefit. The Mad volume and quality of their stock quickly earned Addictech heroic status among breakbeat crate diggers, and the announcement of the first SF appearance by UK club Trigger residents Lawgiverz and Kosmik Neil is further trumpeting their success. With their live remixes and scratching Lawgiverz, the combination of Paul R. Kidz and Nick Noize, will cut up a freeform-style set and leave you godsmacked. With a legion of local breakbeat DJs in tow and a downtempo outside area to enjoy, Jelly's will definitely go off. All profits from the event will be donated to the Unicef Tsunami Relief Fund, so get ready to show your love of bass for a good cause. Asian American Film Fest Gala
The S.F. International Asian American Film Festival (thankfully referred to as SFIAAFF) kicks off this Thursday at 7pm at the Castro Theater. A ticket gets you admission to the new film Saving Face, by director Alice Wu, and entrance to a supremely hip gala reception at the Asian Art Museum that will have you rubbing elbows with those in the biz as you get busy on the dance floor. Headlining the musical portion of the evening is the unparalleled creator of beats Dan the Automator whose production skills are as rich as his sense of humor. For those who have had the fortune to hear (or better yet see live) his productions like Deltron 3030, Lovage and Handsome Boy Modeling School can surely attest to Dan's contribution to hip-hop. Also set to control the decks are DJs from the Dhamaal Soundsystem playing a blend of breakbeats and traditional Eastern sounds, along with DJs King Kong and SambAsia. Enjoy and open bar with free-flowing Crown Royal, Kirin, Quady Wine and more while you tour the museum and get your groove on. Still going strong after the gala? Head over to Studio Z for a late night after party with Triple Threat and Massive Selector DJs!
