Nitevibe presents
DJ Dreamteam 2005
The Underground Takeover

Don't expect the usual weekend crowd at Ruby Skye next Thursday. Because of your votes, the SF underground party scene has infiltrated the usual lineup of house music superstars who owned the Top 10 in years past. Of course we will have the same deep, funky house that you know and love from Mark and Miguel, but this year the underground breaks and progressive DJs have taken a stand and the result will be a transformation of the exquisite Ruby Skye into a down-home, old-school freakfest. Every member of our DJDreamteam is supremely talented, but the most entertaining aspect of our event will be the transition from the 4-4 house to more complex syncopated rhythms. Will there be enough room for all these crazy clubbers under one roof? What happens when musical worlds collide and that old-school warehouse feeling takes over such an upscale venue? Find out next week at the third edition of the annual DJ Dreamteam, where party people everywhere come out to support the sound they love! We are expecting to sell out as we have in the past. Get your tickets now! $20

The Fascist Party
Whether we like it or not, our fearless leader who goes by the name of "dubya" is blindly leading us in the direction of a fascist regime. He's rich, powerful and constantly thinks about what's good for him and his friends in the world of higher tax brackets. But what about Lil' George's fashion sense? Just like every other prominent dictator this world has ever seen, Bush needs to be remembered for his sense of style. The Fascist Party aims to promote that old school fascist sense of style with an evening filled with revolutionary video art, a live A/V performance by Infinite Kaos, a special dictatorial fashion show by FierceCouture, Laura Dawson, Jason Evege and a party with DJs Philip Sherburne and Alaric spinning the kind of music that put Berlin on the map. If this all sounds a little too Stalin for your own good, don that stellar military suit you have hiding in your closet and party like your favorite fascist already. Who knows, you might even help Bush Boy find his true fascist side. Date: Sat. 1/29, Time: 9pm-late, Place: SOMA location TBA, Cover: $15, More Info. (JC)

North Beach Lingerie Parade
Don't get too excited, boys. There won't be half-naked girls marching down Broadway...(well, no more than the usual amount.) This "parade" and peepshow takes place inside the infamous North Beach kitsch bar, the Bamboo Hut. Sponsored by the hip and sexy lingerie brand Miss Maya, this party is just in time for Valentine's Day. Calendars will be on sale as well as special Valentines lingerie and other fun gifts. Tasty chocolate and cupcakes will be served all evening as the peep show keeps sugar levels high and hearts racing. Ladies who are bored of the Victoria's Secret Semi-Annual-Same-Old-Stuff will want to check out these artistic items and bring some sexy new styles home to your boudoir. Date: Fri. 1/28, Time: 7pm-10pm, Place: Bamboo Hut (479 Broadway), Cover: Free, More info (JP)

Event: Outernational Mix
Venue: Nickie's (460 Haight)
Dj's: Cheb i Sabbah
Music: international house and breaks
Cover: $5
When the new-wave parties disappoint, sometimes you have to revert back to the classics; and for that there may be nothing that tops Cheb i Sabbah and the Dhamaal crew who have been spinning at Nickie's since the '80s. He has a sound that stays fresh, combining African, Asian and Arabian beats to form a style dubbed 'ethno-techno' that regularly packs in a club full of loyal followers. (IA)

Event: Tone:Def
Venue: Anu
Dj's: Polywog
Music: all dance styles
Cover: Free
DJ Polywog is a legend in the SF music scene, having even found her way into the classic SF rave flick, Groove. But it's an eclectic style that makes this postmodern diva a star at every party. Her sets see Frank Sinatra waltzing into a swampy jungle bassline, Nina Simone chilling out in a fuzzy ambient groove, and Jimmy Hendrix weaving a rhythm between breakbeats. This master of strange, headtrip fusion somehow manages to keep all the funk coherent and dancefloor ready. She explains it best in her own words, just ask her! (JP)

It's an onslaught of umlauts as Qoöl joins forces with Äranji for an all-night midweek face-off. These Wednesday Qoöl events at 111 Minna have been keeping me sane in the face of the 9-5 grind for quite some time, and it's been over a year since Äranji made a visit. 111's current gallery show is also worth a close look (four words: Andre the Giant's Afro). Event: DJ Logic
Venue: Elbo Room
Dj's: DJ Logic (live), Brian Kenny Fresno
Music: hip-hop, turntablism
Cover: $10 presale, $12 door
If you have never heard of DJ Logic, where the hell have you been? Logic's storied career has taken him from growing up in the same era and same Bronx neighborhood as hip-hop pioneers Afrika Bambaata and DJ Red Alert to playing in various bands such as Eye and I, a collaboration with improv jazz trio Medeski, Martin and Wood, and finally the creation of his own band - Project Logic. Logic is probably best described as a musician first and a DJ second, meaning his versatility as a performer is unmatched. This weekend, The Elbo Room hosts this epic talent for two nights of magical turntable wizardry from a man who knows a thing or two when it comes to music. Check him out! (JC)

Also on the bill are JBoogie's Dubtronic Science and Alphazeta, which is made up of turntable royalty like Zeph, Azeem, Platurn and Teeko.
