The Superstar Collection
An awesome variety of sweet sounds is matching up with some fantastic art as START hosts Tim Gaskin's first solo show. Gaskin's pieces meld celebrity images with icons of advertising to form pop art masterpieces that are amusing and thought-provoking. The visual levity will be well complemented by a stellar lineup of DJs providing a wide spread of sounds. Tom Thump and Soulside are representing the house vibe, while  DJ StINK, Kelly Tunstall, Chris Sia and NOME dish out everything from mash-ups to breaks to downtemop grooves. The lineup only gets better with local hip-hop artists Wiseproof and Kev Kelley (from the Rap Dreams documentary) and a top secret midnight acoustic surprise that you definitely don't want to miss. This eclectic blend is guaranteed to please, so keep your eyes and ears open at this one-of-a-kind show. Circus Exquisitus
Footloose Dance Company is kicking off its annual Women On the Way festival with a gala benefit bursting with creative energy. Sumptious, bawdy, sacred and serene, the live cabaret, dance, comedy, burlesque and aerial performers include Jade Blue Eclipse, Susan Voyticky, and Mistress of Ceremonies Carolyn King. The innovative tribal avant -funk soundtrack will be provided by Bekka Fink's Frogland Orchestra, satisfying your ears as your other senses are enveloped by the interactive art and sumptious food and drink. Enochian Productions presents a rare live performance from Collide. Formed in 1992 and based out of Los Angeles, the duo of Statik and kaRIN each bring their own vision to the group. Statik is responsible for creating sounds and production, while kaRIN provides vocals. Also performing live is Drop Black Sky, a trio that specializes in electronic, goth and industrial music fused with ancient music, guitars and bass and female vocals. DJs Merrick and The Melting Girl from Death Guild will also be performing and providing some goth and industrial music of their own. (CQ)

Broke As Fuck's little brother is back at the original spot in the Hush Hush for 2005. Just One Entertainment rotates their DJs weekly with resident Centipede in the place to be. Spinning mostly dance and hip-hop hits and bringing back the drink specials Broks as Fuck was famous for, Hush Hush is getting back into the mix on Tuesdays. (IA)

The Top may be history, but long live Underground SF! The spot that we all came to love changed owners and has a new name, but kept one of the best d'n'b nights in the city. Phuturo kicks off the bass-slamming weeklies with UK breaks boy wonder Keaton from Renegade records. The cover is only $5, so you can spend a few extra bucks on earplugs if you really need them. Yes, that's right, this Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee who was named one of the 50 most influential names in music by Rolling Stone won't cost you a dime at the door. The legendary Red Alert will also be joined by a stellar line-up of guest musicians, such as vocalist Glenn Lewis, to make this show all the more worth checking out. Solidarity will enrich your soul via the myriad masters on the turntables, while your conscience will be eased by that fact that your dancing helps a cause in desperate need. (SG)

If it's soul you want then it's soul you'll get when this Seattle-based neosoul quintet drops by The Independent for a live DVD recording performance. Maktub has been making musical waves of late thanks to their forward thinking musicianship lead by vocalist Reggie Watts, whose extraordinary talents have been compared to that of soul legend Al Green. All the musicians invited to participate are deeply involved with their own funk, rock, jazz and hip-hop projects around the Bay Area. Bring them all together for the first time in a jam session and its like a reality show in the making! Only not sucky, like most reality shows. (JP)

Roots co-founder and world-renowned percussionist ?uestlove is coming to SF and taking on the famous underground confines of Club Six. Growing up in Philadelphia, ?uestlove and Tariq Trotter ushered in a new form of hip-hop, foregoing the standard prerecorded beats and opting to record Trotter's lyrics over ?uestlove's beats all in one take. Since working with The Roots, he has been performing in Europe, particularly Holland, and is also part of the new Philadelphia Experiment. (IA)

The Breakthru crew's been keeping the scene saturated with the best of local talent, as well as bringing out the big names, so do yourself a favor and catch on to this sound before it turns trendy. When the euphoric trance scene really took off in the late '90s, one of the anthems leading the charge was Synaesthesia, a beautiful track recorded in a makeshift home studio by a man named Steve Helstrip. In the years since then, Helstrip, better known as The Thrillseekers, has worked his magic on hundreds of projects and collaborations that have shaped the entire trance genre. The boys from Skills, the foremost stewards of the local trance sound, have outdone themselves yet again by bringing in this legendary DJ as they spin side-by-side on 1015's hallowed decks. Alphabet Soup has been smokin' on the scene since 1991 and I mean that both figuratively and literally! The live blunted-out hip-hop act consisting of two emcees, drums, bass and sax has toured with the Roots and played at most major SF venues over the last decade. This one-off event at the Last Day Saloon is the original Soup recipe starring two of the O.G. members Dred Scott & Wilbur Krebs flying in from New York and Ohio, respectively. It's a reunion for all lovers of the funk, so come down and experience the larger than life sound that is the Soup. (JP)
