Big Thanks to our Local Scene!

Lets give thanks for the privilege of living in one of the greatest cities with some of the finest DJ talent in the universe. So get some family time in but make sure you head out and show some appreciation for our unique, unequaled, and incomparable music scene. Among the many treats is a week-long visit from fiercely independent NYC househead Frankie Feliciano, who'll be showing off the roots of house music at a variety of events. The EndUp, with its near 24-hour availability, is a place almost everyone has appreciated at one time or another. This Wednesday they're hosting a 10-hour marathon exploration of the concept of Grace with unique visuals and more. If hip-hop is your scene, get to Milk early on Wednesday for Dan the Automator's special Thanksgiving set. If you love the holiday concept of giving check out Mark Farina's show at Ruby Skye. Show some love by bringing a non-perishable food item or a new, unwrapped toy to the door. All year round this town gives us opportunities to be ourselves, have fun, and dance our asses off. So when you're out there this week, grooving to your favorite sound, say a little thank you to the DJs, bouncers, coat-checkers, bartenders, waiters, waitresses, your fellow partiers, and everyone else that works hard to sustain this little slice of heaven. (SG)

Vote for the Ones You Love
I am very pleased to report that we have a heavy breaks contingency in the running right now. Big ups to all you breaks lovers for making your voice heard in the community! Click here to view latest results of the top 30 DJs (results are updated each Tuesday). If you have not yet voted for your favorite DJs, what are you waiting for?! This is a fantastic opportunity to give your beloved DJs all the appreciation they deserve. After all, don't they always play the perfect track at just the right moment? What about how they keep the groove going just long enough for you to dance your way over to that cute boy or girl? Did they ever give you a great reason to ask someone out? Buy some cool shoes? Take a roadtrip? Attend a festival? Go to an epic afterparty? Have a great conversation? Dance all your worries away (at least for the night)? There's no time like Thanksgiving week to give thanks for the endless hours of extreme listening pleasure you have experienced in 2004. This competition is heating up and I can't wait to see what happens over the holiday. Happy Thanksgiving from Nitevibe! (JP) Vote Here

Glamour at MOMA
Around the holidays, when the relatives are in town, I always struggle to find an activity we can all enjoy together. For some reason, taking my Mom and little brother to Club 6 never seems like a good idea. Since we've done that freezing-on-the-boat Alcatraz thing, I usually fall back on the Museum of Modern Art. It's a classy place just full of excuses not to make small talk. Plus there's a yummy cafe which alleviates the need to cook dinner for everyone. And, when it's all said and done, the family is so tired from walking around, they just want to go home and rest, leaving me free to go out dancing at night! It's really a win-win situation, especially with the ultra-cool Glamour exhibit running until January. You'll see it all from Versace gowns to fancy cars (How did they get the Jaguar up the stairs?), bling-bling jewelry to beautifully crafted and ultra-gaudy chandeliers. Fashion, furniture, architecture and industrial design are all featured exploring the theme of how affluence is perceived and the elusive concept of Glamour. It's a theme that is fun and visually appealing for everyone and, who knows, when your done staring at all those material things, you may just appreciate your family even more. Date: through 1/17, Time: varies, Place: SFMOMA 151 Third St., Admission: $10, More Info (JP)

But what's the catch, you ask? No catch is too great, especially a great one like this: Ruby Skye is waiving their cover for this event but is asking that we bring either a non-perishable food item or a new, unwrapped toy for a child in need. The annual Meat is Murder Thanksgiving extravaganza is on at Popscene this Thanksgiving, where lucky '80's fans (many ironically born in the '80's) can hear all the Morrissey and Smiths songs they can possibly stand. After facing nagging moms, creepy uncles, and unruly nieces and nephews all night, the Morrissey marathon is sounding pretty damn good. No one will mind if you wear black and wail along at the top of your lungs to these classic new wave treasures. Plus I would like to officially dedicate this write-up to the Stereo skateboard team, as they are huge Morrissey fans. (JP)

DJ's: Nader, Ali Reza, Tony O and Aykut
Music: world beats, salsa, merengue, Brazilian
Cover: $10 b4 10pm, $20 after
In most countries dinner doesn't start until about 10pm and a night on the town begins at midnight. What this means is that the international crowd knows how to bring it until the small hours of the morn! Alf and Alf productions, famous for their happy-go-lucky gatherings, will be doing it up again this weekend. DJ's Nader, Ali Reza, Tony O and Aykut will keep things moving with such worldly sounds as Persian and salsa beats. You don’t have to actually leave the country to party like these old-world experts. (RW)

Sasha of FlirtyFlirty and Matt Brehm make our lives easy by first creating an atmosphere of positive energy, then filling that space with cool people, and finally bringing in DJs that evoke enough emotion to get the crowd gushing. Aaron Pope should be on point as he'll be rockin' his birthday and celebrating another year of life. Levende offers great lounging couches and high ceilings, allowing conversations to drift through the crowd and linger above heads before entangling itself with the mint in the mojitos and the music in motion. Don't miss the mmm mmm goods! (AM)

Event: Christopher Lawrence
Venue: Ruby Skye
DJ's: Christopher Lawrence, Michael Anthony, Bernard Cabigon
Music: house, progressive
Cover: $15 presale, $20 door
With an already rock-solid rep as possibly the finest progressive DJ ever to come out of California, Christopher Lawrence just got another massive boost last month when he made #7 on DJ Magazine's World Top 100 poll. As the highest ranked American DJ, Christopher has earned recognition for his mastery of progressive innovation in a genre rife with boring, repetitious imitators. He's hitting Ruby Skye on a wave of acclaim, with a Dancestar "Best DJ" Award to go with the rave reviews of his album All or Nothing. It's a tall order to live up to that kind of reputation, but Lawrence never fails to impress the crowds with his incredible mixes. (SG)

Event: Funkycozy 2 Year Anniversary
Venue: Anu
DJ's: Jonathan Beech, Sinukus, Josh Abrams, Kepi, Treavor

It’s hard to believe that it’s been already two years since Funkycozy put the funk into cozy confines of Anu. A monthly occurrence, this party brings you the musical stylings of progressive trance DJ Jonathan Beech along with more mellow, dubby tunes from Sinukus. Josh Abrams from down south in La La Land drops by for a special appearance, hauling totes of progressive monster breaks. (JM)

This OM Recording artist has an insane discography of original music, remixes and DJ sets that embodies his funky, jazzy, dance-driven style. Music: house, techno, nu house, dub, breaks, hip-hop, minimal
Cover: $10 presale
Do the turkey thing on Thursday and get back out to 1015 for an all-star lineup. More than 10 DJs will be bringing all the house, techno, nu beats and minimal you can handle. Add all that to a venue as classic as 1015 Folsom and you’ve got a great late night out. Many of the DJs are international and bring that extra flavor and spice to the tables we’re hard pressed to find, so this is all night fun for sure. (RW)

Event: Thanksgiving Treat
Venue: Suede
DJ's: Frankie Feliciano
Music: house, Latin, hip-hop, r&b
Cover: $15
Frankie Feliciano is the epitome of a "DJ's DJ". From his start at an early age, cutting and scratching freestyle and hip-hop, Frankie grew to love house music and earned his wings under the tutelage of one of the all-time house masters, Little Louie Vega. He's since built a huge following and started his own label (Ricanstruction), but he refuses to follow any direction but his own: "I think that the less talented and creative people in the industry are pushing house music, and music in general, to get to a more futuristic area. With that, it becomes easier for their computers to create music for them." (SG)

Event: Wax
Venue: SOMArts Center (934 Brannan)
DJ's: Nigel Richards, Adam X, Dragn'fly, Denise, Carlos Alfonzo vs. Orionz, Valerie Sparks vs. Lurid, Race, Simply Jeff, Omar Santana, Paul Anthony, Ghost, Aaron Jae vs. Athena, The Doctor vs. Mercedes, M.O.D. vs. Andy P, Elz vs. Nick Nyquil, Reclipse, Data
Music: techno, house, breaks, d'n'b
Cover: $15-$20
If you're feeling that variety is the spice of life, then steer your party partners towards this gig. You could call it a smorgasbord of sound with at least five direct battles and over 30 DJs from ten different labels. Nigel Richards packs killer techno tracks and Simply Jeff's funky breaks always stir up an SF audience, but those are just two of the many all-stars in this massive lineup. Come out and let your ears guide you. (DKD)

Event: Devotion
Venue: The Endup
DJ's: Craig C, Miguel Migs, Mauricio Aviles
Music: house
Cover: tba
Thanksgiving celebrates togetherness, the home, and always falls on a Thursday. Devotion celebrates togetherness, the house (music), and always falls on a Sunday. But while the Thanksgiving turkey might be dry and the gravy lumpy, Devotion never disappoints as Miguel Migs and the rest of the crew always serve up the tastiest cuts of pure house joy. Reuben's off spinning in Europe still, but a set from Craig C, formerly of the Poundboys, should easily make up for the missing maestro. (SG)
