It's
getting chilly and wet out there, and many of us
would like nothing better than to escape to someplace
warm and beautiful, like, say, Italy. If you can
afford it, good for you, but for the rest of us
working class plebians, the rich offerings of the
New Italian Cinema festival will do just as nicely.
Focusing on the newest directors and cutting edge
topics, this collection of films shows off Italy's
European passion set against its gorgeous Mediterranean
scenery. Among the best is Chemical Hunger,
a fast-paced story about an urban love triangle
with a nice hip-hop soundtrack. All the directors
should be in town to exhibit their creations, so
you film buffs better not miss out! Dates:
Sat-Sun, Place: AMC Kabuki

Chillin'
Chillin'...the name has you believing it's a mellow
shin-dig thrown together by a couple of kids between
bong hits. Ironic then, that this high power event
at Studio Z involves artwork from an astounding
40 artists, 40 fashion designers, 30 filmmakers,
and I haven't even mentioned the musical lineup
yet! The Latin-infused live band Orixa is set to
play along with popular house DJs Russel Vargas,
Linden C and many others. This rich cultural extravaganza
is sponsored by SF Weekly, Gen Art, and several
others too numerous to name, but I'm hoping that
Blowfish Sushi's involvement means yummy snacks
and Ladybrille Models means plenty of hot guys and
girls milling about. Come see all the work involved
in Chillin'. Date: Friday 11/12,
