25th Annual Exotic Erotic Ball

San Francisco's ultra-indulgent extravaganza of flesh, fantasy, music, and sex sex sex is celebrating a quarter century of delicious debauchery. In a town known for its wild side, the Exotic Erotic Ball has been SF's annual effort to shock its own jaded eyes with a party to end all parties. Part mardi-gras, part masquerade, part burlesque, there really is no way to put into words what you'll see there. With a guest list that includes adult stars Ron Jeremy, Christy Canyon, and Tera Patrick, sex educators Carol Queen and Dr. Sharon Mitchell, and literally thousands of the sexiest, most outrageously attired people you will ever meet, it's a libidinous nirvana you simply have to see to believe. But what's a party without beats? That department will be in very good hands, indeed, with Richard "Humpty" Vision, Seattle's Donald Glaude, Nitevibe Dreamteamer Dmitris Mykonos, St. John, Ron Reeser, rockers Everclear and Glamnation being just a small sample of the massive musical lineup. After 25 years, you really haven't experienced San Francisco until you've seen the Exotic Erotic. Date: Sat. 10/23, Place: Cow Palace (Geneva & Santos), Cover: $69.95. More Info (SG)

Craigslist Foundation Community Bash
As if giving us job and apartment hunting forums and Missed Connections wasn’t enough, the lovely phenomenon of Craigslist.org is indulging its generous nature again and hosting the Craigslist Foundation Community Bash. As the website touches all areas of our community so will the party, which will feature musical performances, spoken word, video art, art from Burning Man and DJs David Harness and Adnan. Also, a screening of 24 Hours on Craigslist from Zealot Pictures will be shown. The film documents a day of postings on Craigslist with intense authenticity. SF Weekly 15th Music Awards Party
It’s been 15 years, but still seems like only yesterday that the SF Weekly Music Awards, formerly “The Wammies”, created a buzz around the Bay Area music scene. This loud and clear buzz was a salute to local talent, giving expansive exposure and well deserved recognition. The winners of the awards are determined by SF Weekly’s readers as they vote for their favorite musicians in a variety of genres. The other cool thing about this event is that a donation from the proceeds will be given to the music program at San Francisco High School For The Arts. The idea of praising Bay Area talent while nurturing the next generation of musicians is a reason not to miss this event. Date: October 21, 2004, Time: 8pm, Place: Ruby Skye, Cover: $20 or $100 VIP; More Info (KW)

KRS One
There is only one KRS One, and he will make an appearance in a small venue on Polk Street called the Red Devil Lounge. A legendary hip-hop MC, "The Blastmaster" is renowned for his politically-minded words, powerful ideas, and intense performances. In 2002 he came out with two releases, Spiritually Minded and The Mix Tape. One song titled Ova Here spoke directly to Nellie in response to his rival's competitive challenges. You will definitely notice KRS One's attitude in his latest release, titled Kristyles, that will inevitably spill onto the stage. Also known as "The Teacher", KRS will no doubt spit knowledge right off the top of his head in an epic freestyle. This show will not only entertain but educate his audience with words from 1987 up to 2004. Date: Thurs. 10/21, Time: 8pm, Cover: $18 presale, $20 door. More Info (AM)

Venue: Wish
DJ's: Michael May, Dar-Que, The Supercreep
Music: trip-hop, funk, soul

Changes is the name of the game tonight and DJ Dar-Que is a prime example of that, trading his underprivileged youth for a creative and fruitful DJ career. You'll hear a variety of sounds as he funks his way through his house and hip-hop set. The SuperCreep recently hooked up with Tyrell to create their most recent release, Dope Quarter, and you will get to check out his new style tonight by himself. DJ Michael May will round out the night by bringing his housey edge to the tables. You couldn't wish for a better line-up tonight at Wish. (AM)

Event: Mayonnaise
Venue: Skylark
DJ's: J-Fi, Melyss, Tonic + guests
Music: house

I don't like Mayonnaise on my ham-n-cheese sandwich, but I do love it on Tuesday night at the Skylark. The Mayo crew has consistently delivered chunky and creamy 4-4 beats to those in need of a pick-me-up in the beginning of the week. You never know who the guest DJ is, the only way to find out is to get your butt down to Valencia St. (JM)

Welcome Spesh back from his European tour inside the freshly remodeled Anu. How sweet is it to catch him for free while our old-world counterparts have to shell out pounds and euros for the privilege? You could probably get his autograph on the latest The Answer CD which I bought recently. What an amazing journey, I haven’t had a trip like that since doing ‘shrooms in Vegas. (JM)

If you were blindfolded listening to Patrick Wilson, you would think that you were listening to a cat who had been mastering tables for decades. Clearly influenced by past masters, Patrick is so versed in the soulful classics which are the core of today’s house music, that one would find it hard to believe that he was just a kid when the scene was in its infancy. When he's at the decks, you can feel Patrick’s soul being exposed as it spreads throughout the dance floor. This is an unpretentious party that is all about moving to the grooves. (KW)

Nominated for an SF Weekly Music Award 2 years running, the Realistic Orchestra is sure to take it this year in the um...jazz, rock, electronic, hip-hop, funk category? You really have to hear this 15-piece orchestra to believe it. A DJ mixes with sax, bass, drums, trombone, trumpet, vibes, an MC and more, resulting in a massive sound that includes anything from Van Halen to Mystikal. Yes, they cover all the bases, but their original compositions are really the bomb. Watch the Elbo Room blow up this Friday with DJ Tom Thump and MoveOn.org lending support. (JP)

Event: Square
Venue: Ruby Skye
DJ's: Seb Fontaine
Music: deep house
Cover: $15 presale
Some DJs may say Seb Fontaine had an unfair advantage in the underground music world, as he was conceived in the heart of techno land itself, Ibiza. Off to the right start, Seb made a name for himself in England, gaining residencies at The Cross and Cream while promoting a night at Hanover Grand. Seb then went back to his roots, demonstrating his love of deep house at Amnesia in Ibiza. Martel & Nabiel are at it again, bringing the heavy out-of-town talent to SF. (AM)

Chris Lum is such a cool guy . . . oh, and did I mention, a fabulous DJ and producer, too! Chris’s efforts contribute to the reason why San Francisco’s house scene has become recognized and respected worldwide. In the scene’s early days, Chris was the hot source for DJs looking for obscure tracks waiting to be discovered. Then, as if his plate wasn’t full enough, Chris teamed with Jay-J to start Moulton Studios, which has become the home of some of the biggest names out there. Tonight, we get to taste the fruits of his labor as he graces the tables at Pink. (KW)

Born and raised in SoCal, but with a legendary rep earned here by the Bay, Doc Martin is one of the DJ godfathers of the West Coast. A career that started in 1986 with old school funk and disco took off with the explosion of the club and rave scene in the early '90s and never looked back. Despite headlining the world's most prestigious venues, from New York's Twilo to Liverpool's Cream, he's never lost that feel for the crowd that harkens back to his early underground warehouse days. Hearing his unique euphoric house is a privilege. The devoted crowd is about to be treated to another member of Body & Soul’s phenomenal crew. Danny Krivit, whose career solidified during the disco era, has worked the tables at places like the Loft in NYC. There, he spun along with Little Louie Vega and others who have since become legends in the house music world. With this history, Krivit is undoubtedly one who can take credit for bringing us from disco to house music as we know it today. This is his first time gracing Devotion’s tables, but I’m sure the devoted will not let it be the last. (KW)
