If
you have never attended the original Love Parade
in Germany... good! We're starting from scratch.
But before we show the world how SF gets down and
dirty in the streets, it's crucial to seize the
concept in which the parade was founded on 15 years
ago in Berlin. The million raver march began as
a demonstration with the purpose of celebrating
dance music, and spreading respect, and peace throughout
our planet. The love spread to Austria, England,
Israel and South Africa and finally to our first
annual parade in SF complete with over 150 DJs,
booming soundsystems pounding beats of every flavor,
floats, amazing vibes and endless party people dancing
their way from Embarcadero towards SBC Park. The
journey ends with a massive blowout dance fest complete
with vendors supplying nutrients (and cocktails)
for the weary. Break out the Burningman costume
and wear comfortable shoes because you're in for
some lovin' like you never had before. Date:
Sat. 10/2, Time: 1pm, Place:
begins Mission & Beale St., Cover:

Arab
Film Festival
In
a world rife with cultural conflict, it's important
for people to be reminded of the beauty and humanity
that lie beyond our usual perceptions of others. The
8th Annual Arab Film Festival aims to teach, entertain
and enlighten with a very diverse series of works
that examine the culture and experiences Arabs and
Arab-Americans. The inescapable influences of war,
terrorism, and the prejudices they breed are a dominant
theme in works such as About Baghdad and
Forbidden to Wander. However, balance is achieved
with stories of love and humorous looks at everyday
life in Sleepless Nights and Travail
d'arabe. The festival runs from the 2nd to
the 24th at various Bay Area theaters, and the Opening
Night Reception at the Castro Theater promises to
be an extra-special affair replete with music and
arabic mazza. When misconceptions are threatening
to tear the world apart, opportunities such as this
to examine, understand, and enjoy other cultures shouldn't
be missed. Date: Sat. 10/2 - Sun
10/24. More
