This
outdoor DJ festival will not include long lines
or a stage so far away you'd rather watch it on
TV. There will be no "rave tent", drugged out frat
boys passed out on the lawn or vendors selling tour
T-shirts. Its "Doin It In the Park" and this is
my kind of Labor Day party! Join in on the family
vibe as 20 of the Bay Area's most beloved hip-hop,
funk & reggae DJs fire up the BBQ, break out
the volleyball and play TUG a WAR in Golden Gate
Park. There will even be one of those blow-up Airjumper
things for the kids. Meanwhile all the Mami's and
Papi's can get down to the underground sounds of
The Triple Threat Crew (Apollo, Shortkut, Vinroc),
the complex boys of KUSF's Beatsauce (JBoogie, Wisdom
& Raw B) and the irie sounds of Jah Warrior
Shelter and more. A (Free!) outdoor party and BBQ
is how these talented young men and women are giving
back to their fans in the community. All you need
to do is show up and revel in the labor of these
dedicated beat slangers. Date:

Adrian
Sherwood's On-U Sound System
In
celebration of Dub
Mission's 8 year anniversary party, resident
and founder DJ Sep has brought in innovative U.K. producer Adrian
Sherwood for an evening of heavy dub sounds.
Sherwood's dub legacy runs deep, with over two decades
as the label head of On-U Sound, which
has released over 100 albums and helped launch the
career of many a reggae icon such as the late Prince
Far I and Bim Sherman. A wide variety of internationally
known artists have also had Adrian's production
credits on their liner notes including Lee Perry,
Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails to name a few.
What separates Sherwood from his contemporaries
is his determination to put out music that he believes
in. By pushing the envelope of original roots through
times when most people considered "roots" to be
a thing of the past, Sherwood's passion for reggae
and dub has always shined through. He's also been
a major influence in the development of music technology
which has helped other forms of electronic music
to take shape (ie house, hip-hop etc.) with his
unique mixing style and techniques. Dub Mission
residents DJ Sep, Vinnie Esparza, Maneesh the Twister,
J-Boogie and Ludichris will also be on hand. Date:
Sunday, September 5, Time: 9pm-2am,
Place: Elbo Room, Cover:
