Can You Jack the Funk?
If you want to be taken seriously in today's electronic music scene you have to know at least a bit about the history of house music. Saturday is your chance as two of the scene's founding fathers set out to teach the dancefloor an epic lesson at Club 6. Chicago natives Farley Jackmaster Funk and Jesse Saunders will show you the roots of the 4-4 beat. Jesse Saunders is credited with making the very first "house" track, entitled "On and On." Farley Jackmaster Funk had the first house song on the international Top 10 charts with his cover of Isaac Hayes' "Love Can't Turn Around." Both were instrumental in defining house music as an important genre all its own. If you don't believe me, read the books! "What Kind of House Party is This?" and Saunders' own "House Music...the Real Story" show you how this genre really came to be. House Music 101 starts this Saturday and the only prerequisite is that you know how to shake your ass. Date: Saturday 8/7, Time: 10pm - 4am, Place: Club 6, 60 6th St., Cover: $10. More Info (JP)
