'Tis
the season for feminist fun, so hit up this four-day
festival, where the talents of women and transgender
folk in music and the arts will be showcased and
celebrated. LadyFest
Bay Area 2004 features an upbeat series of events
in music, visual art, spoken word, performance theatre,
and educational workshops. For most guys, it's the
most enjoyable way to explore the world of Lady...that
is, outside of the bedroom of course. A special
highlight is Dj Night at Sublounge,
where the all-female line up will get dirty behind
the decks and crank out ear candy you man-groovers
will fully appreciate. Nitevibe's Dreamteam DJ,
Ellen
Ferrato will spin those funky house grooves
of hers spanning the music genres to deliver a bass-centered
set custom tailored to the crowd and vibe. With
Charlotte
the Baroness and other mistresses of beat-chemistry,
this all-female dj night will be seductive and all-encompassing.
Date: Friday 7/30 Time:

Rodriguez
Anyone
tired of hearing the same twenty hip-hop songs on
rotation with the same three topics covered: clubs,
ass and money? If you're looking for something fresh,
look to Spain. Female emcee, Mala Rodriquez headlines
Slims this week with a whole lotta conviction and
talent enough to earn her a nomination for her latest
album, "Alevosia" at this year's Premios de la Musica
Awards (think Spanish Grammy's). Her rhymes are
based on her own urban experiences from the hood
in her native city of Sevila. Flamenco guitar contribute
to a unique beat that even P Diddy or JayZ haven't
thought to rip off yet. Though most of the lyrics
are in Spanish, there is an authenticity which shines
through the music making Jenny from the Block look
like a pawn-shop clerk. Date: Sunday 8/1, Time:
