Cafés Claude and Bastille are two of the venues hosting one of the largest Bastille Day celebrations outside of France. Youssou N' Dour
In it's 67th season, the summer outdoor musical soiree, Stern Grove Festival, continues to showcase amazing musicians with one of the premier African vocalists of our time Youssou N' Dour. Today's event dubbed "Africa Near and Far" features this internationally renowned artist who blends his homeland music of Mbalax (modern Senagalese popular music consisting of traditional percussion, griot singing and sufi inspired Muslim religious chant) with infectious Afro-Cuban and indigenous dance rhythms. Spanning a career of over 20 years, Youssou N' Dour has collaborated with artists such as Sting, Peter Gabriel and Wylcef Jean among others. Youssou's first album release, "Eye's Open" received a grammy nomination and critical acclaim for best world music album. Local bay area favorites, West African Highlife Band, will be opening this show with their unique brand of Afro-beat music to surely get the crowd warmed up. Music has a different effect on us all, find out how to make your own.The Norcal DJ and Music Production Academy is putting on an open house to give people a glimpse into what it actually takes to create that organized chaos DJs pump through speakers every night. First Thoryn Stevens, President and CEO of DJMPA will do some sampling with Ableton Live 4, a sampling unit which allows you to spontaneously compose, record, remix, improvise and edit your musical ideas,” according to the product’s website. Solar-bration with Anon Salon
Anon Salon, the SF collective whose parties celebrate the essences of creativity, art and spiritual enlightenment, hosts a celebration in honor of the summer season. A self-proclaimed "coronation of light among the gods and goddesses of summer," the party attempts to channel nature's spirituality through a gathering of people. The space features different theme rooms such as the Hall of INcanDeSense, where Charlotte the Baroness, Goldilox and Garth will pull out a mixed bag of hard house beats, the StAGe of BrilLIant emANaTionS where Shill (Church of WOW), live group Beautiful Destruction and Necromancer belly dancers give eclectic performances. You'll also find tarot readings, multimedia artwork and a rooftop garden, all geared to tap into your spiritual self and hedonist side. AIDS Marathon Fundraiser
A noble purpose paired with the sounds of wicked breakbeats is the notion behind this month's unique installment of House of Breaks. In order to benefit the SF AIDS Foundation, House of Shields gets pumped up with folks celebrating their contribution to the cause and honoring those possessed with the drive and virtue to run the upcoming National AIDS Marathon. Kapt'n Kirk, Chelsea, and Mancub will turn the house inside-out, with that signature Space Cowboy style of theirs, and djs Erik Hertz and Moody Eva will break out brand-new vinyl to keep the crowd groovin' to the super fresh tracks they deserve to hear. 4Cole and Daisy Crave are also in the mix, and special guest, Kara, will speak about the AIDS fundraiser. Thanks to the huge success of BPM's San Francisco launch party last month. BPM and Nitevibe will be doing it again for the August issue! We would like to personally invite our Nitevibe community to this month’s party featuring the legendary Doc Martin celebrating the release of his latest album "True School" on Sublevel Recordings. He'll be joined by Vincent Kwok also celebrating his latest Bargrooves "Frosted" as well as BPM's very own David Ireland.

The sound collective Lucid will provide the audio for the auction which features work by local Bay Area artists. Proceeds go to local non-profits that help under-privileged children have more contact with the visual arts.
