If
you are reading this on Tuesday morning, you might
say Detroit's Movement
Fest as it IS, because the after parties are
surely still in high gear at underground basements,
lofts and after hours clubs throughout the Motor
City. Techno originator, Derrick May's three day
festival on five stages in Detroit's Hart Plaza
may be the largest free party in the world. Techno
tourists from as far as Tokyo, London and Miami
gather for legendary Djs like Kevin Saunderson,
Francois K, Danny Krivit, Recloose and at least
50 more DJs and bands spanning all genres. The festival
ends each day at midnight but the clubs are filled
with more bountiful talent until the early hours.
The coolest part is that throughout the weekend
you not only hear them but run into some of the
biggest names in music partying their asses off
just like you. Check out our photo
gallery and you might find Ayro, Amp Fiddler,
Ron Trent, Mike Clark, Agape and more caught in
the act! (JP)
Anon
Salon presents Juney Toonz
Walking into an Anon Salon party can be like participating
in a psychedelic cartoon, and this one promises
to be no different. For this crew's anniversary,
they're throwing Juney Toonz, a huge underground
gathering that will feature tons of funky, out-of-this-world,
interactive artwork, elaborate costumes (wearing
one will actually get you a discount at the door) and
of course, the local DJs we all know and love. Laird,
Obadayo, Greg Eversoul, Seven and more will spin
some soulful house and 4-4 beats, while Kid, Tony
Perez & Secondhand Smoke rock and funk the beats
live. The flyer even hints at "occasions for funny
captions and bad rhymes" which may be that chance
you've been waiting for - for your inner poet to
come out?? Only one way to find out...Date:
Saturday, June 5, Time: 9pm-late,

Zero
to 7 in Two Days
Even
before their songs were used for the high-profile
final season of Sex and the City, Zero
7 fans were found in cities the world over.
The UK duo behind the airy neo-soul grooves is Henry
Binns and Sam Hardaker. Of course none of it would
be possible without an adept team of musicians and
vocalists like Mozez, Sia Furler and Sophie Barker.
After the full debut album, "Simple Things" was
released in 2001 you would think words like "brilliant,
smart and sexy" might get tiresome. But Zero 7 is
at it again with their recent March release, "When
It Falls" sending music writers to the thesaurus
and fans back to the record store to buy a second
copy for their friends. Last year's performance
at the Fillmore included a full band with five singers
spanning the stage to create the lush vocal texture
that is their signature sound. Zero 7 live does
not disappoint. Date: Thursday

The Fillmore, Cover: $25, More
