Hi,
sorry I don't have an opening line but since you have an opening and
I have a line. . .
All you out there have, at one time or another been exposed to one
of these... yea you know it - a pick up line. Wanna nother? - "Do you
have a mirror in your pocket…'cause I could see myself in your pants"
- It's just the nature being in the scene. But according to Nathaniel
Merriweather (AKA Dan The Automator) his collection of "chat up lines"
guarantees success over time. I'm not sure about that, but what I do
know is that Dan's show last night with Kid Koala at Slim's was off
the hook! The full title of the event was Nathaniel Merriweather

Breaker....Fuse. I get it now. At first I was thinking they named the

probably just Jack and Ben doing it all themselves. Check out their

Sunday
night has some of the most creative nights in town. I've heard the music
at parties described as sex trax, electrotrash and now art-fuck. What
is art-fuck? What is hillbilly funk? I've never met a funky hillbilly.
Maybe I will at Juke Joint. Check out the DJ lineup- impressive.

Someone
must have read my mind… This new party featuring Jamaican flavor happens
on Sunday afternoon. Mamasan's
Bistro will be catering from noon until 8pm. Is this not the perfect
way to come down? Last
week MCs Radio and Phluid took to the mic for a freestyle session over
a nu school breaks set by Jonah Sharp. How's that for a cool scene?

Continuation...
The album by the same name came out in November and features Dan
the Automator, Kid Koala, Prince Paul, Damon Albarn, Jennifer Charles,
Mike Patton, and Maseo. It has a loungy downtempo 70's French Porno
feel that gets dark and dirty.
Dan (who produced the Gorillaz) is Nathaniel Merriweather. On stage
he wore a kimono-type robe, along with fake side burns and was not without
a cigarette (in holder) as well as a glass of red wine through the whole
show. Mike Patton who you may remember from Faith no More was known
as "Miguel" - a sleazy lounge singer who had the answer to
all your romantic queries. Hair net in place, sporting a fake mustache
and smoking jacket, he hosted the event while the gorgeous Jennifer
Charles donned a red slip for a dress and supplied the sultry female
vocals.
Audience members were encouraged to come on stage and massage the
shoulders of the band members who drank continuously from the full bar
set up in the middle of the stage. Kid Koala was tearing it up on the
decks but was oddly the only one not in costume. He later told me that
he misplaced his Paul Frank PJs before the show.
The way the band never broke from their sexy Lovage characters was
outrageous but my favorite part of the show had to be the encore. Mike
Patton and Jennifer Charles came back to the stage and broke into their
own special version of "I'm Real" by Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule. If
you missed the show, you won't hear that one on the record but it's
worth buying anyway. Plus Valentines Day is coming up…. Check out this
link and let Nathaniel Merriweather give you some pointers on how to
get lucky. http://www.lovage.co.uk/
